Despite being an appliance that we use 24 hours a day, its specific operation is a mystery to most people. The mechanics of this appliance are relatively complex and it is based on a circuit that allows us to keep the food cold. The operation of the refrigerator has a vitally important part that determines what temperature it should be at. Guess which one? You're right! We mean the thermostat.
In simplified terms, a thermostat is a part of a control system that, depending on the temperature, reacts in one way or another to keep it constant. We can find thermostats in many types of machinery or appliances, such as heaters, air conditioners, heaters, ovens or refrigerators. In the latter case, the thermostat is the temperature controller that allows us to always have the desired temperature in the freezer and refrigerator.

We all associate the concept of the thermostat with the refrigerator's temperature regulating roulette. However, this part is only one part of the control system. This device is installed in the electrical circuit that operates this appliance, in contact with a capillary tube filled with gas or refrigerating liquid which, in turn, is connected to the freezer. This allows the thermostat to control the temperature changes registered in it.
When the degrees get too high inside, the refrigerator motor starts up and the refrigerant gas begins to circulate until it evaporates at the end of the circuit. In other words, when there is a change in temperature the thermostat senses it and starts the flow of electricity to the compressor, which causes the refrigerant gas to start working again. Once the appropriate temperature has been reached, the flow of electricity to the compressor is interrupted and the process is stopped. Without a thermostat, the compressor in the refrigerator would never stop working. In addition to the energy cost, ensuring that the temperature inside is stable would be much more difficult.
If you notice that your fridge is not cooling the food enough or if it ends up freezing, we recommend that you adjust the temperature of the thermostat as soon as possible. On the other hand, you should bear in mind that if it is too full, the air will not be able to move smoothly. This can cause some foods to freeze (those near the cold air outlet) and the rest may not get cold enough. Try to leave space between foods when you put them in or fill your refrigerator less and it will work better.
